Software Engineering Teacher/Mentor with Hack Reactor and Thinkful.
I love teaching fundamentals. I welcome all questions, and nothing is too simple.
A little bit about me: I love continuing to learn about, and teach/mentor software engineering! I find it to be a good blend of science, art, and continuous puzzle solving. I come from a musical background and have spent many years playing music at the bedside for people at hospitals, and continue to bring music to elders in assisted living situations. I like to explore the connections between music and software engineering.
My engineering career has provided me the opportunity to work with with multiple frameworks and libraries, including: react, node/express, d3, backbone, angular, mongo/mongoose, postgres / mysql, redux, firebase, and more. Above all, the most important skill that I have been developing during my engineering career is how to break down larger problems into solvable pieces.
Often the feeling of “hitting a wall” in this type of work comes from trying to solve too large a problem at once. I seek to inspire a feeling of possibility and empowerment in those that I get to work with. I write about my software engineering explorations and sometimes other subjects as well here: https://medium.com/@alexjacobs/
