I have been developing in Java almost since I started programming. Professionally, I have been coding in Java since 2014. I pay special attention to memory, performance, and monitoring. It isn't enough for a program to be functionally correct, it needs to be scalable and adaptable for the future. Always interested in discussing and teaching about: 1. Tools for diagnosing memory and performance problems 2. Different garbage collectors and how they work 3. Java compilers 4. Java data structures 5. Code maintainability and extensability 6. General Java programming concepts

I regularly interview candidates for everything from Intern to Senior level dev positions. I construct coding problems for these interviews and tend to be problem focused as opposed to language focused. I interview candidates in Python3, Ruby, JavaScript, Java, C++, or whatever language they are most comfortable in. I can offer to do a mock interview as well as walk through my process and what I look for in a candidate.

I started mentoring devs during college as a TA for Advanced Data Structures. I continue to mentor one to two junior devs each year. I tend to be a technical mentor but also help with how to handle real world situations that my mentees may not be comfortable or ready to discuss with their manager.
