The first "real" language I learned, I returned to C to develop firmware for an embedded project, as well as developing an operating system for ARM Cortex microcontrollers as a learning and teaching exercise.

Developed a prototype system for tracking a vehicle and allowing it to be unlocked using an RFID token. I designed and built the hardware, which consisted of a custom PCB that integrated an ARM Cortex-M microcontroller with GPS, GSM and RFID modules, and talked to the vehicle over a CAN bus, using reverse engineered commands to lock and unlock the doors. The software comprised the ARM firmware along with a Python server that it talked to over GSM using a custom protocol for tracking and vehicle access control. A web front end provided tracking via embedded Google Maps and access management.
